Winchester Track & Field Battles Arlington, Sends Athletes to Postseason Meets

This past week, Winchester Track & Field competed against Arlington in a closely contested meet. Both the girls’ and boys’ teams put forth strong efforts against tough competition. The girls narrowly lost by a score of 51–49, while the boys fell 63–36.



Despite the close losses, several athletes achieved notable qualifying performances. Jasper C qualified for the MSTCA Coaches Invitational in the 55m hurdles with a time of 8.16.


At the Freshman & Sophomore Meet, Audrey Houllahan qualified in the 55m with a time of 7.92. Linus A and Liam M both qualified in the 55m hurdles with times of 9.33 and 9.40, respectively. Vinny M qualified in the 300m with a time of 1:33.54, and Jack Lennon qualified in the shot put with a throw of 38 feet, 4.25 inches.



Several athletes also qualified for the Middlesex League Varsity Championship. Bridget Higgins qualified in the 600m with a time of 1:44.86. Tyler Bernstein qualified in the mile, running 4:40.20, and Noah Manelli qualified in the two-mile with a time of 10:06.65.

Additionally, Isaac Knesis qualified for the Massachusetts Division 2 Meet in the high jump, clearing 5 feet 8 inches.



This weekend, both the girls’ and boys’ 4x800 relay teams competed at the Northeast Invitational on January 10 at the Reggie Lewis Center. The girls’ team of Bridget Higgins, Solana Murphy, Chloe Walker, and Julia Ramsey ran a time of 9:55.86, qualifying for both the MSTCA Coaches Invitational and the Massachusetts Division 2 Meet. The boys’ team of Shawn K, Noah D, Callum K, and Adel H ran 8:39.89, qualifying for the Massachusetts Division 2 Meet.
