Winchester Track Battles Woburn, Earns Wave of Championship Qualifiers

Winchester Track & Field competed against Woburn in a dual meet on Tuesday, April 28th. Both the girls’ and boys’ teams put forward strong efforts against a competitive opponent. Despite the fight, the girls’ team fell 79-57, while the boys’ team lost 91.50-44.50.


Despite the outcome, several athletes achieved notable qualifying performances across multiple events. Julia Ramsey delivered one of the top performances of the meet, setting a new school record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:08.31. She qualified for the MSTCA Coaches Invitational, the Middlesex League Championship, and the Massachusetts Division 2 Meet in both the 400m (1:00.72) and 400m hurdles.


Viviana Cella also had a standout day, qualifying for the MSTCA Coaches Invitational, Middlesex League Championship, and Division 2 Meet in the long jump (17'4.5"), while also earning spots in the Coaches Invitational and Middlesex Championship in the 100m hurdles (17.83). Michelle Su also ran an impressive 2 mile (12:54) which qualified her for the Division 2 Meet.



Additional qualifiers for the MSTCA Coaches Invitational included Seren Grassi in the 100m (13.47) and 200m (28.35), and Alex Machemer (2:33.22) in the 800m, Riley Newman (5:36.83) and Caroline Lanz (5:43.03) in the mile, Ellie Nguy in the 2 mile (12:46.79), Linus Abruzzese in the 110m hurdles (17.06), Avery Bastien in the 400m hurdles (1:12.82), Temperance Cormey in the high jump (4'8"), and Liam Morinator in the triple jump (39').


At the Freshman & Sophomore level, Noor H qualified in the 100m (13.55) and 200m (28.61), Finn Hoover (23.23), Seren Grassi (28.35), and Zoe Tarabelsi (28.88) qualified in the 200m, Noah  Mannelli (2:10.03) qualified in the 800m, Adel Halaseh (4:46.84), James Ramsey (5:16.65), Caroline Lanz (5:43.03), and Kendall McCarthy (6:06.12) qualified in the mile, Andrew Caputo (11:04.52) qualified in the 2 mile, Avery Bastien (1:12.82) qualified in the 400m hurdles, and Liam Morinator (39') qualified in the triple jump.


At the Middlesex League Championship level, additional qualifiers included Finn Hoover in the 200m (23.23), Riley Newman in the mile (5:36.83), Avery Bastien in the 400m hurdles (1:12.82), and Viviana Cella in the long jump (17'4.5"). Chloe Walker qualified for the MSTCA Coaches Invitational and the Middlesex League Championship in the 800m (2:31.17).


Winchester will next compete at Lexington High School on Wednesday, May 6th at 4:0
