Season Opener Sets the Tone for Winchester Track

Winchester opened its outdoor track season on Thursday, April 10th with a home meet against Reading High School, where both teams competed hard despite tough final scores. The girls’ team fell 82-54, while the boys’ team was defeated 101-35.

Despite the tough competition, the meet featured several standout performances and early-season qualifications for upcoming invitationals. Noah Damaske led the distance squad with strong marks in both the 800m (2:04.93) and the mile (4:41.11), qualifying for the MSTCA Coaches Metro Invitational in both events. Adel H followed closely behind in the 800m with a time of 2:05.58, also earning a qualification. On the girls’ side, Julia Ramsey (2:22.64) secured her spot in the 800m, while Chloe Walker (5:35.52) qualified in the mile and Michelle Su (12:10.19) did the same in the two-mile.

In the sprints, Zayne O (12.34) and Avery Blast (14.04) both qualified in the freshman 100m, with Avery also earning a spot in the 400m (1:04.23). Field events also saw strong performances, as Temp C (17’4.5’’) and Madison Von Mering (16’8.5’’) qualified in the long jump. Leo Volchuck demonstrated impressive versatility, qualifying in both the shot put (40’10.25’’) and javelin (157’11’’), while Bryan H (41’0.25’’) qualified in the shot put. Additional qualifiers included Mike F in the discus (123 '5'’) and Audrey C (85 '11’’) on the girls’ side.
Overall, this first meet provided a strong foundation for the season, with many athletes already hitting qualifying standards and setting the tone for future success.
The team returns to action on Tuesday, April 14th, against Arlington at 4:00 PM at Stoneham High School.
