The Winchester girls’ swim team kicked off its season with a strong showing at the Woburn–Burlington tri-meet, winning by a score of 90–80. The meet featured 11 events, beginning with the 200 medley relay and closing with the 400 freestyle relay.
It was a standout day for the relay squads, as every Winchester relay qualified for sectionals, with two earning a spot at states — an impressive accomplishment in the team’s very first meet.
Individually, two swimmers also punched their tickets to states. McKenna Salviati qualified in the 200 individual medley, while Kaylee Goa advanced in the 100 butterfly.
Points in swimming meets are awarded based on place finishes.

Typically, first place earns six points, second place five, third place four, and so on down to fifth place. Relays count for even more, making them critical to a team’s overall score. Winchester’s ability to consistently place across events — and dominate in the relays — ultimately made the difference.
In recent years, Winchester has often beaten Burlington by wide margins, but this time the meet was much closer. Winchester’s 10-point win shows the team is both deep and dangerous heading into the season.
