Winchester Girls’ Soccer Hands Lexington First Loss of Season

The Winchester varsity girls’ soccer team earned a statement win on the road yesterday, defeating previously undefeated and unscored-on Lexington 1–0.


The game was locked in a scoreless battle through the first half, but Winchester came out strong after the break. The decisive goal came early in the second half, when Winchester capitalized on their momentum and pressure to take the lead — a lead they would not relinquish.

The defense was the backbone of the victory, with Gaby Hermsdorf, Grace Wilhoite, Amanda Mitchell, and Lila Roeder shutting down Lexington’s attack. Captain Lilly Ossen expressed her appreciation for them saying “They’ve been absolutely amazing this season”. They were flawless again in this marquee matchup.


Offensively, Winchester has showcased balance across the roster. Both Sophie Shapiro and [the goal scorer] have tallied four goals so far this season, while freshmen Audrey Houllahan and Ashley Mitchell have three apiece. Junior Emma Kiernan has added two, including a critical header in the win over Arlington.


With the victory, Winchester improves to 4–0–1, moving to the top of the Middlesex League standings. The team now looks ahead to its next matchup against Reading, set for 4:15 p.m. next Wednesday at home.
