The Winchester girls varsity soccer team delivered a statement performance this past week, dismantling #5-ranked Concord with a convincing 4-0 victory and showcasing the depth, skill, and cohesion that have carried them through a dominant season. Entering the match, Winchester was ranked 9th, but the team quickly proved that ranking didn’t reflect their current form.

After a tense and evenly matched scoreless first half, the Red and Black came out firing in the second. Within just 10 minutes, Winchester scored four goals, completely taking control of the game and leaving Concord scrambling to respond. The offensive fireworks were powered entirely by freshmen, an exciting sign of the program’s future. Charlotte Bjerke put herself on the scoresheet twice, while Stella Garcia and Ashley Mitchell each added a goal, highlighting the team’s ability to spread the ball, create space, and capitalize on scoring opportunities.
Beyond the individual performances, Winchester’s dominance was rooted in teamwork and precise ball movement. Players consistently found open teammates, rotated positions fluidly, and executed quick, sharp passes that dissected Concord’s defense. The Red and Black’s ability to control possession, maintain tempo, and transition quickly from defense to offense allowed them to dominate both sides of the field and maintain relentless pressure throughout the match.

The victory came shortly after Winchester’s final league game against Belmont, which ended in a tie, clinching the team’s fourth consecutive Middlesex League Championship. The combination of league success and a major win over a top-five opponent has given the team immense confidence heading into the playoffs.
“We moved the ball incredibly and played so well, not just as individual players but collectively as a team,” said Senior Grace Wilhoite. “I’m extremely proud of us, and we are feeling confident and excited to head into the playoffs being Middlesex Champs and having this huge win.”
With a mix of experienced leaders and standout freshmen, Winchester now carries momentum, depth, and championship experience into the postseason. If they continue playing with the same precision, energy, and teamwork demonstrated against Concord, the Red and Black could make a deep run and challenge for the state title.
