The Winchester girls varsity field hockey team is finding its stride in the heart of the season, coming off a string of strong performances and building major momentum heading into two huge games this week.
After a dominant 6-0 win over Wakefield and a 4-2 victory over Lexington yesterday, the Red & Black are proving they can compete with anyone. They’ll look to keep that energy going in their next matchup — a home game against Watertown on Thursday at 4:15 p.m. — before traveling for a high-stakes clash with #1-ranked Uxbridge on Saturday.
Sophomore Ellie Drake has been nothing short of electric in the offensive circle, scoring multiple goals in recent games and making her mark as one of Winchester’s most dangerous forwards. “She’s small but mighty,” her teammates say — and her quickness and scoring touch back it up.

Midfielder Sam Gal, a Providence College commit, continues to command the field with her precise passing and ability to move the ball around defenders with ease. On the back line, Addy Aufiero and Madison von Mering have been rock-solid, shutting down opposing attacks and anchoring the team's defense.
Low midfielders Stella DeChristoforo and Riley Pimental have also been key in connecting the defense to the offense — Stella with her powerful hits and Riley with her relentless, aggressive play.
The team’s recent 2-1 win over Reading two weeks ago, played in pouring rain, showed just how tough this group can be under pressure. With a home crowd behind them Thursday and another big test Saturday, Winchester looks ready to prove they belong among the state’s top contenders.
Winchester’s Senior Night will be on October 24 at home against Belmont. Come to celebrate seniors Isabella Bogovich, Madison Von Mearing, Julia Fredy, Sam Gal, and Madelyn Rabinovich.
