The Winchester girls varsity field hockey team capped off an incredible regular season with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Belmont on Senior Night, securing the 2025 Middlesex League Championship — the first for the program in at least four years. The match was electric, with a vibrant student section cheering the Red and Black on and creating an atmosphere that energized the team from start to finish.

The game also served as a celebration for the six seniors: Captain Isabella Bogovich, Captain Madelyn Rabinovich, Madison von Mering, Sam Gal, Julia Fredey, and Sloane McCarthy. Their leadership on and off the field has been central to Winchester’s success this season, and the team honored them with heartfelt recognition during the pregame and halftime ceremonies.
The second goal, a spectacular reverse chip by sophomore Ellie Drake, highlighted the offensive talent that has propelled Winchester this season. Drake has been dominant at the top of the field, consistently creating scoring opportunities and finishing in style. The win also extends a season full of standout moments, including a 5-2 victory over Reading in a rematch last week and a 4-1 win over Watertown, marking the first time Winchester has beaten them since 2018. Watertown, a historically dominant program, has only lost four times in the past 17 years, including a 2017 national-record-breaking 184-game winning streak that was ended by Winchester.
Off the field, the team has balanced athletic achievement with meaningful events. Earlier in the week, they participated in a Teacher Appreciation game against Woburn, which also served as a Breast Cancer Awareness “Play 4 A Cure” game, honoring teachers who have played special roles in players’ lives during halftime.
With the regular season complete, the Red and Black await the MIAA tournament seedings, expected to be either 5th or 6th, as rankings are announced tomorrow. The team carries momentum, skill, and confidence into the postseason, backed by a cohesive squad that has consistently played its best. Key performances from players like Isabella Bogovich in goal, along with standout play from offensive leaders Ellie Drake, Sam Gal, and Madelyn Rabinovich, set the stage for a deep tournament run.
With a mix of seasoned leadership, rising talent, and a culture of excellence, the Red and Black look ready to make their mark in the playoffs, aiming to translate their regular-season success into a championship push.
