After a tough loss to Lexington earlier in the season, the Winchester boys varsity soccer team has completely flipped the script. The Red and Black have gone undefeated in their last seven games, finding their rhythm and confidence at just the right time. With a current record of 6-3-3, Winchester now sits firmly in the hunt for the Middlesex League title, chasing first-place Arlington as the regular season winds down.

The turnaround began with a 3-1 home win over Reading, setting the tone for a hot streak that showcased the team’s growing chemistry. The Red and Black followed that with a 2-0 victory against Belmont on Senior Night, where the energy in front of the home crowd was unmatched. From there, they kept rolling with a 3-0 shutout over Wakefield, highlighted by Shawn Kinyanjui’s breakout performance — two goals and an assist in a commanding attacking display.
Winchester then battled Lexington to a 1-1 draw at home and earned a hard-fought 2-2 tie away at Watertown, showing grit in tight matches. The run capped off with a statement 5-0 win over Burlington on home turf, a match that showcased the Red and Black’s cohesion and confidence on both ends of the field.
Leading the charge has been Shawn Kinyanjui, who has been electric up top, now sitting at eight goals on the season, including a clutch finish on Senior Night. In the back, captains Casey Trumbower and Marvin Li continue to form one of the league’s strongest defensive pairings, combining composure, physicality, and leadership. Behind them, Will Brown has been exceptional in goal, coming up with key saves and providing a steady presence that anchored the team through close games.
In the midfield, captains Cole Queenan and Kadhir Kumaran, along with Brady Cedrone at defensive mid, have dictated the tempo and connected the lines with control and precision. Their ability to maintain possession and create attacking opportunities has been a driving force in Winchester’s resurgence.
As the Red and Black head into a critical stretch of games against Woburn, Reading, Arlington, and Belmont, every match carries major playoff implications. With momentum building and team chemistry at its peak, Winchester looks ready to make a serious push for the Middlesex League title — and a deep postseason run.
