Winchester, MA – The Winchester High School boys baseball team kicked off their MIAA Division 1 state tournament campaign with a solid 6-4 victory over Beverly High School last night, Friday, May 30th. The hard-fought preliminary round win propels the 32nd-seeded Red & Black deeper into the playoffs.
The game, played at Winchester High, saw Beverly (12-9) initially take the lead in the second inning. However, Winchester's offense ignited in the third, scoring all six of their runs in a crucial two-out rally, ultimately securing the lead for good. The team showed resilience, making key adjustments against Beverly's strong pitching to get to their bullpen.
This victory extends Winchester's winning streak to two games, improving their season record to 14-8. They will now face a formidable challenge as they prepare to take on the top-seeded Taunton (16-6) in the next round of the Division 1 tournament on Monday, June 2nd.
