history

History

The Winchester Sports Foundation was organized in 1989 by a group of Winchester parents and sports enthusiasts as a result of severe budget cuts to the Winchester High School’s athletic budget. That year the athletic budget faced a $60,000 deficit and the high school considered instituting a $35 per student “sports and transportation fee.” Today, appropriate funding of the high school athletic programs continues to be a significant challenge.

The Winchester Sports Foundation has contributed over $750,000 in the pursuit of these goals.

Some of our major gifts include:

  • Funding for the launch of the girls’ and boys’ volleyball teams;
  • Funding for the launch of the girls’ and boys’ ski teams;
  • A $25,000 donation towards the artificial turf field at Knowlton Field; and
  • A $100,000 donations towards the new outdoor track facility at Manchester Field (and the purchase of all new equipment for the track team)

The Foundation raises money from an annual golf tournament, an annual campaign, and through individual and corporate donations. Our mission remains as important today as it was in 1989. We hope you will consider supporting the athletes at Winchester High School by playing in our golf tournament or becoming a donor or corporate sponsor. We are a 501(c)(3) organization and all your contributions are tax-deductible.
